Question: Marilyn, I feel overwhelmed by the pressure to be on all of the social media. How do I show up everywhere and not end up running around like a chicken with my head cut off?
ANSWER:
I have some really "good news" in response to this question and it concerns why you are doing the work that you're doing in the first place. If you're like 99.99% of holistic practitioners, you're running your business because you want to share your gifts - your knowledge, your insight, your experience - with the world! And yes, you want to make a good living doing it which means getting MORE PEOPLE to know about you and value you.
And many of the conversations that I have with members or prospective clients that have a frustration or despair energy concern not having ENOUGH people to work with or not being able to share their gifts with enough people.
Well, the answer to ALL of your problems lies in a lesson that we were taught in Kindergarten... married with the explosive power of technology:
SHARE.
That's right. It's as simple as that.
The more you share, the more people will know you.
The more you share, the more people will want you.
The more you share, the more people you'll be helping. The more you share, the more money you can make.
If your business is stagnant right now - not enough clients, not enough leads, SHARE your way to greater visibility and prominence.
Share your insights in articles. Share your activities in status updates.
Share your products in video demonstrations or teleseminars or webinars.
Share your expertise in discussion boards and forums.
Share yourself by networking online. All of this sharing accomplishes some important goals: 1) it puts you OUT THERE! in front of people, prospective customers, prospective partners. 2) it actually fulfills your mission - it helps people and gets you using your gifts. 3) it will come back to you - greater visibility and more connections lead (with the right bait and intake and conversion system) to more qualified prospects, more sales
It's a WIN-WIN-WIN - for you, for your prospective customers, and for the universe! So as to HOW to do it - to keep yourself EVERYWHERE - without getting overwhelmed, here are some suggestions: 1) Most social media outlets (Facebook, Blogger, WordPress, Twitter, MySpace) can be updated via email - that means that ONE email can update many different outlets.
2) There are services for keeping multiple channels updated - TubeMogul.com for Video, Ping.fm for status updates. Ping.fm lets you update LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and all of your "What Am I doing now?" engines at once..including your blog! 3) Put yourself on a teaching/sharing schedule. Commit to creating content - writing, interviewing, getting interviewed, teaching, coaching, consulting - on a regular basis and then break that "content' up and use the technology to SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! If you're not serving as many people as you want to be right now, change! Start sharing your gifts with more people and soon, you'll be getting paid for sharing your gifts with more people (again, as long as you have structured the bait and intake and conversion systems...which of course I can help you with)
